Recent Highlights

April 20, 2023

The committee met with our architect, Bart McElfresh, over Zoom. A few highlights:

  • Committee chairman, Curt Roby, was introduced and designated as our main point of contact with Ionic Dezign.

  • A review of 30% design rendering, including the design of the exterior north wall, storage accommodations, and lighting.

  • The committee will prepare to organize work for various interior and exterior portions of the project as we wait for further designs.

May 19, 2023

During the Bible Class hour on Sunday, May 28, the BPMEC will inform the congregation of the significant progress being made on our building expansion. Time together will consist of:

  • explanation of the BPMEC charter,

  • virtual 3-D drawings,

  • areas to offer your experience and support,

  • the Capital Campaign, and

  • key next steps.

On May 18, the committee met over Zoom with our chief architect and the president of Ionic Dezign to discuss the 85% completed constuction documents. No major changes are being made, but the documents are becoming more detail-oriented, both on the interior and exterior. The committee will be reaching out to knowledgeable individuals in our congregation for feedback concerning specific aspects of the project. Find out more and how you can offer your help at the Project Update on May 28.

June 16, 2023

The BPMEC met over Zoom call on Wednesday, June 14.

  • Discussion was had over the acoustical recommendations from Scott Riedel & Associates. Acoustic elements will be placed on the north and south walls of the sanctuary to assist with the audible balance between the sung and spoken word.

  • Members talked through options for the size and construction of the large crosses to be hung over the sanctuary altar and in the entry tower.

  • A sub-committee will be stood up to address the interior design of the worship space and audio/visual considerations.

More sub-committees will be stood up in the coming weeks and months as the project progresses. These groups are crucial to producing a usable and visually-pleasing addition to our current facility. The BPMEC is searching for individuals to help in fields of particular interest and experience. A list of such fields can be found by contacting the committee members.

June 30, 2023

The committee has obtained a set of architectural, structural, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) drawings that are 99% complete for the building. This will enable contractors to provide accurate budget numbers for the construction bids.

However, there are still a few things that need to be finalized: audiovisual systems, acoustic considerations in the sanctuary, and making decisions on interior finishes. Additionally, a Quality Control committee is carefully reviewing the drawings to ensure agreement among all disciplines and correcting any areas of discrepancy.

April 10, 2023 - First Meeting

During their meeting on March 30, the Church Council approved the formation of the Building Project Management Executive Committee (BPMEC). The committee is acting in a provisional status until the June 11 Voters’ Meeting when the committee will be recommended for approval.

The committee consists of a Committee Chair and two standing members, elected for one-year, renewable terms. The Congregational President and both pastors also serve as ex officio members.

Curt Roby (Chairman), Morris Hayes, and Scott Swoboda were elected and currently serve on the committee.

The official charter, as published in the April 2 bulletin, can be viewed here.

The Committee met to review the 30% renderings from our architect, Ionic Design.

May 5, 2023

The Building Project Management Executive Committee (BPMEC) members will present a building project update on May 28 during the regular Bible class hour. The Church Council will recommend the establishment of this committee at the Voters’ Meeting on June 11.

During the meeting, the committee will communicate the scope of their work, the schedules that have been presented by our architect, and opportunities for directed, humble service in this exciting and monumental project. All are invited to attend to learn more.

Sunday School Mini-Unit

During the month of May, the Sunday School children are learning about the importance of this project while being given the opportunity to give directly to the Capital Campaign. An overview of this mini-unit and the results as God blesses them will be highlighted in the meeting.

June 2, 2023

Last Sunday, May 28, the BPMEC presented an update to the congregation about the fast-moving progress being made on our site and master plan. A video recording of the presentation can be found on the Living Hope YouTube page or by clicking the Living Hope icon above.

On Friday, June 2, members of the committee met with our acoustical consultant, Riedel & Associates. Their recommendations are being implemented to provide us with a practical sanctuary space that supports spoken and musical functions both by our pastors and congregation, free of echoes or other unwanted ambient noise.

June 24, 2023

The BPMEC did not officially meet over the last week, but two notes about their continual work are worth mentioning:

  • The civil plans (how our building will sit on our property) have been initially accepted by the county. Now begins a 4 to 6 month process of back-and-forth review, ensuring that our building can and will be built according to the specifications.

  • The committee has submitted a list of potential general contractors to our architectural firm, who will assist us in interviewing viable candidates. These potential contractors will provide bids on portions of our project, which will help us review the budget pricing more accurately in the near future.

July 21, 2023

On Thursday night, the committee held a Zoom meeting to discuss recent activities. They are currently working on the 99% construction documents, which they received on June 22.

On August 11, the committee, assisted by Ionic Dezigns, plans to conduct interviews with 3-5 potential contractors. During these interviews, they will focus on discussing and evaluating different construction delivery methods. This is a crucial step in providing the committee with a more precise understanding of construction pricing, flexibility, and lead times for materials.

Three sub-committees are currently active:

  1. Interior Finish Sub-Committee (Supervised by Pastor L): responsible for reviewing finish schedules, recommending a general color scheme, materials, and design styles. They receive guidance from a professional interior designer from our architectural firm. They also are evaluating Audio/Visual considerations.

  2. Quality Assurance Team (Supervised by Scott Swoboda): Team members have a background in construction and are verifying the accuracy of the construction documents.

  3. Kitchen Design Team (Supervised by Scott Swoboda): This team is in the early stages of formation and is tasked with identifying specific needs for the kitchen area.

If you have any ideas or comments for any of these active sub-committees, please reach out to the supervising member of the BPMEC listed in parentheses above.
